What I need to spin a good web : Jan 19 2009
I often get enquiries along the lines of: "Hi. I dig yer shizz mister wizz. I need a website. How much do you charge?", which is fair enough, but obviously I need more information to answer that question accurately.
Here is a list of questions that I would need answers to in order to give you a decent response:
- Do you have a budget?
- Do you have a set deadline?
- Do you require a logo?
- Do you have a list of pages you need on your website?
- Will you require a content management system, and/or more advanced dynamic modules such as a blog and e-commerce facilities?
- Do you already have a web presence?
- Do you require hosting and a domain name?
- Would you be the sole decision maker / point of contact, or is there a committee?
- Would you be able to supply all resource material in a digital format?
- Are there any online points of reference?
- Do you have Skype?

The Skype's the limit : Jan 04 2009
I think you will all agree, communication is the key to any successful project. That and getting paid 'phat wedge' so that you are really motivated :P
Being a freelancer, technology is a vital tool in order for me to ensure that the communication between myself, the client and others involved (programmer, for example) is to a level that ensures the success of a project.
I find a combination of e-mails, telephone calls, Skype messaging / conferencing, and online document sharing to be the most efficient methods of managing a project from both the developer and client perspectives. Especially if, like me, you is a freelancer yeah innit ...
